LLC Retreat: Life is a Masquerade Marci

Back at the end of October (2014), the second La-la Land Craft Retreat was held in Pacifica, California.  (I'm a little late posting the projects from the retreat). And, again, this year was no disappointment. The first day was our very first class session with Irina, the Owner and Designer of La-la Land Crafts.  We all wondered what the theme of the event would be since last year's theme was "Steampunk".  This years theme was "Masquerade" and so fitting for the first project Irina taught.   We all rushed to get our large themed Burlap tote which had our "gifts" inside: a feather boa, a sequin mask, some luscious papers, pens, a commemorative themed Tee Shirt celebrating the event, a scrap tote and much more.  That's just to start - we all got up to date chatting with our retreat friends from the previous year.  Such fun to be had for the next 2-1/2 days. Now on to the first class project: Can you just see how excited we were when we saw this sample - we were going to make  this?  Well, we all did!!!! This project finished size is 12" x 12" x 3/4". It is awsome!!!!
Some additional details about this project: The base of the project is a painted blue canvas with a smaller 8" x 8" flat canvas mat which is also painted in blue. Brown ink is used to roughen up the large and smalled canvas pieces.  The focus is the newly released stamp: Masquerade Marci.  She is colored using Copic pens (color details provided by Irina. I did change her hair color to be a Brunette) She is popped with foam squares and sits on a 5-3/4" decorative circle with a black mat. Around the decorative circle is accordion folded paper, giving the background interesting texture.
Here's a closer look at Masquerade Marci: love her adhesive rhinestone on her mask
Details of her dress: and, a adhesive rhinestone in the center of her bow.
On top of the 12" x 12" painted canvas, is a layer of decorative paper which has a slight metallic sheen: so perfect for this project. The 8" x *' painted canvas sits on top of this decorative paper.   On the top right corner: see two Spider web Corner Dies found here (they're not just for Halloween). Love the metal embellishment in the corners of the smaller painted canvas.
This is the left top corner with a Heart Ribbon Corner Die found here. On top of the 8" x 8" painted canvas is a layer of card stock with a layer of metallic acrylic layer.  And, around the edge of the canvas is a string of flat back pearls.
On the bottom left corner is a spray of flowers, along with some cute die cute feathers (from La-la Land Crafts).
Also in the lower left side is a wooden spool with a stamped message "Life is a Masquerade" unfurling from the spool. This message is included in the Masquerade Marci stamp set.
On the lower right side of the canvas: more flowers along with die cut feathers. The group of flowers sit on top of a satin ribbon. Can you see the Cherry Blossom Die (found here) peeking out from under the silk flowers?
This is the lower right hand corner with the Heart Ribbon Corner Die found here:
Another new die released recently is the Chandelier Die which has been layered for some thickness, and, with some adhesive rhinestones to further embellish.
In the background is a Wrought Iron Gate Die found here and the Stitched Scallop Boarder Die found here, both have been offset for a shadow effect.
Here's a better photo of the die cut Cherry Blossom peeking out from under the flower bunch:
 Side view of the project:
Thank you for stopping by today - so stay tuned for more projects from the 2014 La-la Land Retreat: Day 1. There will be posting 5 days a week so I can get caught back up on the all projects made from this event.......so stay tuned.
